Plusballs have been used successfully in residential care homes. I took some plusballs and rackets into The Priory Nursing Home in Tetbury, Gloucestershire some time ago and after giving a brief demonstration to the residents and carers, I started rallying with a lady sitting in her favoured chair. The rally went on for some time and soon got to 100 consecutive hits! (I later found out that the lady was 100 years old!). This kind of success rate is by no means unusual. As long as elderly people have some vision as well as mobility in their wrists, hands and arms then long, stimulating rallies can be achieved.

They provide opportunities for:

  • Fun and enjoyment
  • Physical exercise
  • Sociability
  • Achieving successful outcomes
  • Co-operative activity
  • Competitive routines
  • Adding a different and exciting leisure activity to existing programmes
